LG 42LM6200 Review

The LG 42LM6200 Provides A Solid Television For Today’s Family

The modern family loves digital content. Traditional television, video games, 3D technology and high-resolution movies are at the top of the list in most family’s television checklists. The impressive LG 42LM6200 obviously has this in mind with its passive 3D technology as well as traditional 2D content support. The ability to access online content with its connectivity options sets it apart from the competition. However, there are a few missing features which would have brought this system closer to the level of its high-end HDTV counterparts.

The LG 42LM6200 is obviously designed with both adult and children viewers in mind. 3D movies and video games look amazing on the LG 42LM6200. The manufacturer-included passive 3D glasses allow up to six family members to enjoy 3D content at the same time. The 1080p HD resolution is perfect for viewing numerous television shows, movies, and video games.

One of the faults with this model is its rather unimpressive refresh rate. While the LG 42LM6200’s 120hz refresh rate is similar to the motion rate offered by other HDTV sets, it is much lower than the other LG models. The LG 42LM6200 performs acceptably for sports and movie action scenes. However, in movie scenes with fast moving objects, the image does not appear quite as smooth as it should.

The Wi-Fi ready connectivity system makes it easy to get the LG 42LM6200 online. This is great for watching shows via online websites like YouTube, Netflix and Hulu Plus. Since many families use these free services almost exclusively to watch shows on demand without paying extra, this television is a very practical option.

Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi system is not without its flaws. Google TV and a fully compatible web browser would have made a huge difference. Not including flash or HTML5 compatibility makes browsing anything but the most popular sites cumbersome or impossible. The social networking features that tie into Facebook and Twitter are also great. However, one can only imagine what this TV would have been capable of if a fully integrated, unhindered browser was included. Perhaps future updates could further increase the reach of the online browsing capabilities of this television.

You’ll also have no problem watching movies through more traditional methods on the LG 42LM6200. With a full panel of USB terminals and HDMI connectors, you’ll have no trouble connecting Blu-Ray Players, CD and DVD players to the system.

Video games also connect easily to the unit and provide a fast enough refresh time to enjoy timing-sensitive games on the big screen. The USB ports make it easy to connect camcorders and cameras for large-screen viewing of your photos or personal movies.

Overall, this is an excellent television for families who consume lots of different content on a regular basis. It definitely wins points for being easy to use and delivering on everything it promises. While it is not the ultimate in high-end resolution or refresh rates, it is more than sufficient to meet the needs of the casual viewer and his children.
